Added Protection for the Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW)Published by: Eron of Talk Loud | Dated: 19th of April, 2009
The Overseas Filipino Workers or also known as OFW are the new age heroes for the Philippines. All of the remittances that came from these migrant workers are approximately said to be 11% of the total budget of our country, Philippines. It is one of the main reasons why our country survives to the slight economic downfall.
The House Bill No. 5649 or also known as “An Act Improving the Standards of Protection and Assistance for Migrant Workers,” gives the power to control and monitor the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) if they are not doing their job. If in any case that an OFW has been placed to an unsafe zone for his or her job then the law can act. This also requires all agencies in the government, which gives Filipino to work abroad, to submit their semi annual report.
It is important to protect our “Bagong Bayani” or OFW, because without their large amount of remittances maybe the Philippines’ economic standing is now shaking.
