Problems of Filipino Nurses
Published by: Eron of Talk Loud | Dated: 22nd of March, 2009Nurses are known to be the health aid inside clinics and hospitals. They are the ones who are responsible for all treatment, safety and recovery of every patient that they will encounter during their duty and even off duty due to the oath that they promise. This is a very difficult career because they need to be dedicated and work by heart and earning money is just a reward.

But what is happening to all the Filipino nurses nowadays? After graduated and took up the Nursing Board Exam, what should be the next step? And that is to find a job. According to the statistic, there are approximately 200,000 graduates of nurses every year in the Philippines but only 2,500 are getting the right job for it. Let us just do some percentage here; approximately there is only 1.25% from graduates who gets a job? What will happen to those who remain jobless? Why does the government keeps on accepting enrollees to take up nursing courses from different universities if they know for a fact that Filipino nurses are overly populated. Are there any quotas for it? What are they aiming for? Maybe, to human export again these professionals to become a “bagong bayani” or OFW (Overseas Filipino Workers)?
There are so many questions hanging around to each one of us. The answer for these questions is still undefined. We all hope that every parent who dreams big for their child will somehow feel it as a reality. Because being a Filipino nurse again is not for the sake of money, it is dedication and the love for the career path that they have chosen.

You are right in recognizing the problems of Filipino Nurses. The root cause of the problem is not that our nurses are dreaming big bucks but rather the widespread poverty creeping the society. With this at hand, parents are forcing their kids and kids are forcing themselves to take up nursing because there are many success stories of them way before.
But times have changed and many people do not realize this. What we can do now as bloggers is to educate future Filipino nurses to take the profession for the love of it not just for money so that our nursing output can get back to normal levels. No oversupply. No over dreaming.
Thank you for your concerns on us Pinoy nurses.
yes nursing is a vocation and those who wants to pursue just because of the high salary should think twice. i think a quota for nursing students should already be imposed as well as stricter guidelines for nursing schools.
Maybe they could come over to the US to work.
