Is Transport Fare Really Fair for the Commuters?

Published by: Eron of Talk Loud | Dated: 17th of March, 2009

Early in the morning you ride a jeepney, bus or even tricycle to go to your desired destination. But upon paying the fare, you were shock about the fluctuating fare price. Some are asking much and others are just following the rules.

Bus Jeepney Tricycle Transport Fare

The transport fare in the Philippines is still undecided by the group of buses, jeepneys and even tricycles. All of these groups are still blaming the oil price hike but we all know that the global price for oil is now lessening. If these alibis by the groups are not acceptable they will now turn our heads to the high price of their vehicle’s spare parts. Woah, hold on, what is real then?

Because of these, the LTFRB (Land Transportation and Franchising Regulatory Board) is decided to test a new formula for the situation and they called it “Parametric Formula.” Wherein, the transport fare will be based on the price of oil, spare parts and other miscellaneous by the operators or drivers.

As I know, there is a solution for this oil price problem and as our Honorable Senator Mar Roxas said:

“Aaralin natin kung talaga namang sapat ang supervision ng Department of Energy sa mga oil companies na ito. Sang-ayon sa Oil Deregulation law, mayroong kapangyarihan ang Secretary of Energy na buksan at busisiin ang mga libro ng oil companies” source

[ We will study if the DOE (Department of Energy) has the proper supervision over these oil companies. As the Oil Deregulation law states that the Secretary of Energy has the right to open and analyze the books of these oil companies. ]

The question now is who or what to be blamed of? Let yourself decide.
