The Jigsaw Puzzle
Published by: Eron of Talk Loud | Dated: 20th of June, 2008Many of us think that solving a jigsaw puzzle is for child’s play only. Who can tell that with this simple hobby of Gemberly Tan-Cagalingan from Binondo will give her the title of The First Asian who finished the largest jigsaw puzzle in the world that is entitled “Life.”

To tell you a little bit of the Life puzzle, Life is consisting of 24,000 puzzle pieces and only a jigsaw puzzle hobbyist like Gemberly Tan-Cagalingan can take this challenge. The size of it is 428cm x 157cm (4.28m x 1.57m). It is really huge for a jigsaw puzzle and that is why it’s called the largest in the world. Can you solve this?
After she bought the large jigsaw puzzle and opened it. The puzzle is divided in 4 separate plastic bags. She does not want to solve the puzzle in four parts because she thinks that it would be like solving a 6,000 pieces rather than 24,000. So she opens all the four plastic bags and pours all into the puzzle’s box and the puzzle solving for her started. She logs all the time that she consumes on finishing the Life jigsaw puzzle and the total she got is 233 hours and 5 minutes. All she wishes now is that there would be a group that will invite all puzzle enthusiasts like her and start their own jigsaw puzzle community.

That is one huge jigsaw puzzle. I can not imagine that she made it only for 233 hours or almost 10 days only? Wow, amazing…
Hi Eron,
I saw this blog when I was searching for puzzles. First of all, I would like to thank you for making a blog out of my story. I am very thankful for what you did. Some of the information need to be changed. Please delete the word “TONDO”. The puzzle is divided into 4 separate bags, with 6000pcs. on each bag. Thank you and I hope this will be edited since I would like to include your blog on a cd I am making.
Thank you.
This is a very rare talent. I cannot even finish my own jigsaw puzzle at home. But this girl really rocks
Imagine a jigsaw puzzle that big. Way to go Gemberly Tan-Cagalingan I hope she has free lessons on how to solve this big jigsaw puzzle.
To Gemberly, thank you for your detailed comment. By the way, I have already edited the words on my post. I would like to thank you in advance for the placement of my Talk Loud blog in your upcoming CD. That is one of the good news I received today. If please inform me to where I can see your CD in the future. Thank you.
OMG for me it will take years to finish that kind of puzzle T_T
btw nice one Gemberly you own in jigsaw puzzles =)
pinoy maritime, it would be better if I give some tips in solving jigsaw puzzles of any sizes here so that many people can read it.
First and the easiest, set aside all the side pieces. When you see the corner pieces, set it aside too because usually, that’s where you start connecting the border pieces.
Afterwards, you can sort the center pieces out by shape, color, texture, and any pattern you get to see based on the puzzle you are doing. I always have plenty of boxes so that I can categorize them.
There are no rules in doing puzzles. But these tips can help. If ever you seem to get stuck in an area, try doing other area first or get up from your seat and do other things. When you come back, you’ll get a fresh vision of the puzzle. Lastly, enjoy the journey of assembling it, that’s the fun of doing puzzles. I hope these helps you and other puzzle enthusiasts.
Eron, thank you very much for the changes you’ve made. Let’s see if I can put the compiled files online. Actually, I just want to compile it for my personal record.
Pinoy Ragnarok, thanks for the compliment
Appreciate it so much
I never thought of that. I’ll try your tips 101 :). But I’ll be doing it on a little bit easier jigsaw puzzle before I do it on a complicated one. Thanks Gemberly.
I don’t even like doing a puzzle that is 300 pieces, let alone 24,000. Congrats on such a huge accomplishment.
That is a lot of puzzle pieces to put together. She’s a superwoman who knows what she’s doing. How will it take for an average person to complete all that!!
wow this is one huge puzzle… are you an addict? hehe just kidding!
Correction:largest COMMERCIAL puzzle. The largest puzzle in the world was assembled in South Germany by more than 15,000 people. 1,141,800 pieces. Covered almost all of the town square. Biggest I’ve ever done is a 6,000 piece of Noah’s Ark. Had to make my own frame for it and have custom sized fiber glass cut for me. Yay. Here’s the link to the puzzle:

Have fun with THAT one.
Hello I just want to know where can I buy that puzzle? I have my own collection of puzzles I only bought them from Stitches and Things. I’d like to give that a try that 24,000 pieces.
Thanks so much hoping for your feedback guys.
