500 Pesos Subsidy for the People
Published by: Eron of Talk Loud | Dated: 12th of June, 2008
People are queuing just to get the 500 pesos subsidy that the government is giving out for the Meralco subscribers. This subsidy is only for the so called “lifeline consumers” or subscribers that are only consuming no more than 100 Kilowatt per hour.
You can see how people from our country are wasting time just to get those 500 pesos given by the government and the fact that it is a small amount nowadays. For average employees who are earning as much as 10,000 per month will just laugh at this and mostly ignore it. It is good to see that our government is giving out money and one of it is this but these will just make the Filipinos lazy. Some will not work and just wait for the goods to come up.

500 pesos is 500 pesos. You can’t say that giving out 500 pesos will make Filipinos lazy since it was our (paying Meralco subscribers) money in the first place.
Remember the system loss fee? If you are like me who pays my own electricity bills, then you probably know how it feels like to pay for someone else’s electricity bills. Getting back what was taken is definitely worth it.
@ Rai,
but Rai its a clear bribery don’t you think. most of the people who gets the 500php are the poor which comprises most of the voting population, lets look at the other side of it. Think about the national budget for 2008. Its already signed way before this 500php. Now think about this, where will they get that big amount of funds and who will account the actual money that they have already given. We got to think of a longer solution for this rather than just give 500php money. Lets put some equation here: 500 from Gov. + given to people - pay to meralco = useless
Got my point? Why not subsidize the payment directly, by reducing the sources of power like fuel in order to lower the price of electricity or find another source of power. It will also reduce the long line at Landbank which gives this money and the people won’t spend to much time waiting on the line. Remember that this government has never been honest on their projects, and to continuously be blinded by money is a sad thing don’t you think.
whoa there
I understand your point. It is clear that it is not for the benefit of many Filipinos because why only the so called “lifeline consumers” are the ones that can only get the 500 pesos subsidy? How about the consumers with more than 100 Kilowatt per hour consumption in their electricity? For me all Meralco subscribers must have this subsidy with no discriminations or what so ever.
i think if the government really wants to help the people, they should do it automatically, not in the manner that the people will look like that they are craving for the “P500 subsidy” and they have to go to banks just to get the cash. thats useless and pointless at the same time, cause what will you do for that small amount? ok lets say that 500 is still 500 pesos but, how about the consumers that are using more than 100 kwph? how about them? you’ll just exclude them because the government thinks that they can pay their bills? i think thats unfair… if the government really wants to help “us” i think they should do it automatically, and all the subscribers of meralco must have that kind of benefit.
